Campobasso, a town of South Italy, among the Apennines, 52 miles N. of Benevento by rail. It has several fine churches and important manufactures of cutlery. Pop. 13,594.—The province (formerly Molise) is very mountainous, and little of the land is cultivable. The chief industry is sheep-raising. Area, 1764 sq. m.; pop. about 380,000 (see table at ITALY).
