Cancellaria

Chambers's Encyclopaedia, Volume 2: Beaugency to Cataract, p. 703

Cancellaria, or LATTICE-SHELL, a large genus of Gasteropods (Snails) in the order Prosobranchiata, and not far removed from the cone-shells. The shell is usually buckie or whelk-like, but the transverse lines are crossed by longitudinal bars, which produce a pretty lattice-like pattern. The animal differs from its neighbours in being vegetarian. There are 115 living species, and more than half as many fossil in the Tertiary strata. C. reticulata is a common South Atlantic species.
