Cannanore, a seaport and military station of the district of Malabar, in Madras, about 50 miles to the N. of Calicut. The town stands at the head of a bay; while the fort and cantonment occupy the bluff headland which shelters the inlet on the side of the Arabian Sea. The town has several mosques, and there is a lighthouse in the old fort. Pop. (1891) 27,418.
