Cannula, a small tube used in surgery; especially a tube enclosing a trocar, or perforator (withdrawn after it has effected the introduction of the tube), used for evacuating air or fluid from any cavity in the body; and the tube for the patient to breathe through, inserted into the windpipe after the operation of Tracheotomy (q.v.).
