Caravaggio, a town in the Italian province of Bergamo, 3 miles SE. of Treviglio by rail. It has a famous church, L'Apparizione della Madonna, to which pilgrimages are made, and is celebrated as the birthplace of the painters Fermo Stella, Polidoro Caldara, and Michel Angelo Amerigi, all three surnamed Caravaggio.
