Central City, the name of several villages and hamlets in the United States, and of the capital of Gilpin county, Colorado, 40 miles W. of Denver by rail, with quartz-mills and rich gold mines, and (1890) 2480 inhabitants; also of a mining town of Lawrence county, Dakota, in the Black Hills, 280 miles SW. of Bismarck, with some twenty quartz-mills for gold, and a pop. of about 4000.
