Clavije'ro, FRANCISCO XAVIER, Mexican historian, born at Vera Cruz in 1721, entered the order of the Jesuits in 1748, and became a teacher of philosophy. On the suppression of the Jesuits in 1767, he retired to Italy, where he died at Bologna in 1787. He wrote in Italian a History of Mexico (Eng. trans. 1787).
