Colloid

Colloid is a name applied by Graham to any soluble substance which, when exposed to dialysis (see OSMOSE), does not pass through the porous membrane. Starch, gum, albumen, and gelatin are examples of colloids; and the name is used in contradistinction to crystalloids.
