Contras, a town in the French department of Gironde, on the left bank of the Dronne, 32 miles NE. of Bordeaux by rail, with some trade in flour and wine. Here, in 1587, Henry of Navarre gained a bloody victory over the forces of the League, under the Duc de Joyeuse, who perished. Pop. 2302.
