Cupule (Cupula), in Botany, a shortened axis with a number of more or less cohering bracts, numerous and crowded in the acorn, or three in the beech-nut, which more or less completely inclose the ripening fruit. The husk of the hazel-nut may be regarded as an incipient cupule.
