Danvers, a post-village of Essex county, Massachusetts, 4 miles NW. of Salem, with manufactures of shoes, carpets, bricks, &c. It is the seat of the state asylum for the insane. Peabody, 3 miles to the south, was formerly South Danvers. Pop. (1885) 7048.
