Dragon, GREEN (Arum (Dracunculus) vulgaris), an Araceous plant, with spotted petioles and handsome lobed leaves, and dark-coloured fetid flowers, is common in Greece and other countries of southern Europe, and is occasionally to be seen in gardens. The root-stock is acrid, emetic, and was formerly of medicinal repute in the treatment of piles; also (apparently for no better reason than the doctrine of signatures could draw from the spotted stems) in the treatment of snake-bites.
