Dren'the, a frontier province of the Netherlands, bordering on Hanover; area, 1630 sq. in.; pop. (1893) 137,456. It is the least populous province in the kingdom. The soil is in general poor, only about one-half of the surface being capable of cultivation, the remaining portion covered chiefly with heath and morass. The inhabitants are chiefly employed in agriculture, pasturage, and in digging and exporting peat.
