Easton

Easton, capital of Northampton county, Pennsylvania, stands in the fork between the Delaware and Lehigh rivers, 67 miles N. of Philadelphia by rail. A number of railways meet here, and the town forms also the terminus of the Delaware, Lehigh, and Morris canals, by which a considerable transport trade is carried on, while it has several foundries, rolling-mills, and manufactures of locks, wire, rope, flour, &c. Easton is the seat of Lafayette (Presbyterian) College (1832), with a library of 20,000 volumes. Pop. (1890) 14,481.
