Echuca (formerly Hopwood's Ferry), a town of Victoria, Australia, stands on a peninsula formed by the Murray and Campaspe rivers, 156 miles N. of Melbourne, on the Murray River Railway. It has considerable trade in red-gum timber, wool, and wine, and important river traffic by steamer. A bridge which carries a roadway and railway connects Echuca with Moama on the New South Wales side of the Murray. It is 1905 feet long, and cost £124,000. The vineyards are important. Pop. 4234.
