Economy (Gr. oikonomia, 'household management') is etymologically equivalent to what is usually called Domestic Economy (q.v.); Political Economy (q.v.) is the usual but somewhat inconvenient name for economics or economic science. We speak also of the vegetable economy, the animal economy, the social economy; and theoretically the Jewish economy is equivalent to the Jewish dispensation. Economic botany is discussed at PLANTS (USES OF).
