Elephant-shrew

Elephant-shrew, a name applied to a number of long-nosed, long-legged Insectivora, forming the family Macroselidæ. They are natives of

Africa, and are notable for their agile jumping over loose sand. They use their hind-legs somewhat in kangaroo fashion. There are two genera, Macroselides and Rhynchocyon, with fourteen species.
