Encumbered Estates Court. In 1849 a statute was passed to facilitate the sale of encumbered estates in Ireland, and constituting a court to which landlords of such estates might apply to direct the sale. Up till 1859 (when this court was superseded by the Landed Estates Court, dealing also with unencumbered estates) this court made 3457 sales, producing a sum of £25,190,839. See IRELAND.
