Entaw Springs, a small affluent of the Santee River, in South Carolina, near which the last serious battle in the American war of independence was fought, 8th September 1781. The Americans, under Greene, drove the British from their first position, and on their retreat during the night took many prisoners. The British claimed a victory because they held their position unmolested during the afternoon.
