Entellus Monkey, or HANUMÂN (Semnopithecus Entellus), the most sacred monkey of the Hindus, worshipped as half divine, and regarded as the host of ancestral souls. The body is 4½ feet in length, from ashy-gray to dirty yellow in colour; the face is dark, with bushy grayish-white whiskers; and the tail is longer than the body. Entellus monkeys live in troops, are noisy and quarrelsome, and do much mischief near towns and plantations, but are nevertheless reverenced and petted. Their home is in the 'hot tropical plains of the north-western Gangetic provinces,' but they have been introduced elsewhere. They are sometimes confused with the Langoor, and probably with others.
