Eretria

Eretria, an ancient Ionic trading and colonising town on the SW. coast of Eubœa, which was destroyed by the Persians in 490 B.C., and, although rebuilt by the Athenians, never after- wards regained its former prosperity and importance. The modern town of Nea Eretria is a small, unwholesome place, surrounded by swamps.
