Espiritu Santo (Span., 'Holy Spirit'), the largest and most westerly island of the New Hebrides, with an area of 1868 sq. m., and a pop. of 20,000. The soil is fertile, but the climate is unhealthy.—Espiritu Santo is also the name of an island in the Gulf of California, 30 miles N. of La Paz; of a cape of Tierra del Fuego, and of the mountains separating Honduras and Guatemala.
