Essek, the capital of Slavonia, on the right bank of the Drave, 12 miles above its confluence with the Danube, and 189 S. of Pesth by rail. The Roman Mursia, and the seat of a bishopric since 335 A.D., it has a prosperous trade in corn, livestock, wood, &c. Pop. 19,801.
