Estover, the right which a tenant has to take a reasonable portion of the wood on an estate for certain definite purposes. Estovers, or botes (Saxon), are of three kinds—housebote, which is twofold—viz. estoverium ædificandi et arrendi, a right to wood for fuel and repairs of the house; ploughbote, estoverium arandi, wood for repairing instruments of husbandry; and haybote, estoverium claudendi, wood for repairing hedges and fences.
