Estremoz

Estremoz, a town of Portugal in the province of Alentejo, 23 miles NE. of Évora. It is built round the base of a hill which is crowned by a once formidable castle, erected in 1360. Estremoz is famous for its jars of red porous earthenware for keeping water cool. Pop. 7575.
