Fatwa

Chambers's Encyclopaedia, Volume 4: Dionysius to Friction, p. 563

Fatwa, a town of Bengal, at the confluence of the Punpun and the Ganges, and on the East Indian Railway, 8 miles from Patna. It is thus a place of some commercial importance; and as the Ganges is here deemed peculiarly sacred, Fatwa is at certain seasons of the year the resort of large numbers of pilgrims. Pop. 10,919.
