Felixstowe, a coast-village of Suffolk, with a railway station (1 mile off) 9½ miles SE. of Ipswich. It is named from a priory (1105), dedicated to St Felix, a Burgundian, who from 631 to 647 was first bishop of Dunwich. With a fine beach for bathing, a pier, good golf-links, and many Roman remains near by, the place is rapidly becoming a popular seaside resort. Pop. 864; with it is now joined Walton, 1 mile to the west (pop. 1272).
