Fochabers, a village of Elginshire, on the Spey, 7 miles ESE. of Elgin. Milne's Free School (1846) is the chief edifice. A mile north is Gordon Castle, the old 'Bog of Gight,' and the seat, since 1449, of six earls and four marquises of Huntly, five dukes of Gordon (the fourth of whom almost rebuilt it towards the close of the 18th century), and now of the Duke of Richmond and Gordon. Pop. 1109.
