Fossano

Fossano, a town of Piedmont, North Italy, picturesque situated on a hill over the Stura, 15 miles NE. of Cuneo by rail, with a cathedral, a 14th-century castle, and remains of the old town walls. Its streets have an antique and gloomy appearance, the houses being built over low arcades, under which run the footways. It has an academy of sciences, a seminary, technical and veterinary schools, and manufactures of silk, leather, and hemp. Pop. 7959. See BORGOGNONE.
