Fraser, SIR WILLIAM (1816-98), from 1852 an assistant-keeper in the Register House at Edinburgh, and from 1880 to 1892 deputy-keeper of records there, was in 1885 made C.B., and in 1887 K.C.B. From 1858 he issued a long series of sumptuous Scottish family histories—on the Stirlings of Keir; Montgomeries, Earls of Eglinton; Carnegies, Earls of Southesk; and Colquhouns; with the Books of Carlawerock, Menteith, Lennox, Buccleuch, Douglas, Annandale, &c. He died 13th March 1898.
