Frederick, a well-built city of Maryland, 61 miles W. by N. of Baltimore by rail, with several foundries, tanneries, flour-mills, and other manufactories. It contains a college (1797), a Jesuit establishment, and a state institution for the deaf and dumb. Pop. 8659.
