Galchas, a collective name given by Ujfalvy to a group of tribes inhabiting the highlands and upland valleys of Ferghana, the Zarafshan, and the Oxus. They are closely akin to the peoples of the Iranian stock, and in speech are near the Tajiks and Persians. They are Sunni Mohammedans.
