Hinckley, an ancient town of Leicestershire, and partly also of Warwickshire, 13 miles SSW. of Leicester. Its parish church, with a beautiful oak roof, is supposed to have been erected during the reign of Edward III. Hinckley has manufactures of cotton hosiery and of boots and shoes. It stands on the old Watling Street. Pop. (1851) 6111; (1891) 9638.
