Hiuningen (Fr. Huningue), a town of Alsace, on the left bank of the Rhine, 2½ miles N. of Basel, is celebrated for its fish-breeding establishment (see PISCICULTURE). It was fortified by Vauban in 1679-81, but the works were finally destroyed in 1815. Pop. 1704.
