Hydnum, a genus of fungi belonging to the sub-order Hymenomycetes, order Basidiomycetes, and having the under side of the pilcus covered with soft spines which bear the spores. The species are numerous, some of them British; among these is H. repandum, more common in some parts of the continent of Europe, and much used as an esculent in France, Italy, and Germany. It grows chiefly in pine and oak woods.
