Hypnum

Hypnum, a genus of mosses belonging to the order Bryinee. Archegonia and capsules are borne on special lateral branches. The sexual organs are formed in August and September, and the capsules take from ten months to a year to ripen. Many species are remarkable for their beauty, and are often used for decorative purposes. Their distribution is universal.
