Infidel

Chambers's Encyclopaedia, Volume 6: Humber to Malta, p. 136

Infidel, amongst Christians, popularly means one who rejects Christianity as a divine revelation, but is not used of heathens (though they are infidèles, Lat. 'unfaithful') or heretics. By Moslems Christians are called by a corresponding term ('giaour,' 'kaffir,' &c.). See ATHEISM, DEISM, APOLOGETICS, CHRISTIANITY, HERESY, PERSECUTION.
