Islington, a suburb of London, but so closely connected with it as to form part of it, is situated 2\frac{1}{2} miles N. of St Paul's. Pop. (1861) 155,341; (1871) 213,778; (1891) 319,143. It is remarkable for the number of its religious, educational, and benevolent institutions. The Agricultural Hall (1861), where the great national cattle and horse shows are held, is capable of holding 50,000 people. In 1885 Islington was made a parliamentary borough. It returns four members to parliament, one member for each of its four divisions.
