Jameson, ROBERT (1772-1854), geologist, born at Leith, and educated at Edinburgh University and under Werner at Freiberg (1800-2), was elected in 1804 to the chair of Natural History in the university of Edinburgh. At first a Wernerian, he adopted Hutton's views; and he published half a dozen works on mineralogy and geognosy (1804-37).
