Johnstone, a manufacturing town of Renfrewshire, on the Black Cart, 3\frac{1}{2} miles W. by S. of Paisley. Founded in 1781, it contains a large flax-mill, cotton-mills, a paper-mill, foundries, and machine-shops. Pop. (1831) 5617; (1891) 9668.
