Kamthi, or KAMPTI, a town and cantonment of the Central Provinces, India, lying 9 miles NE. by rail from Nagpur, on the Kanhan River, here crossed by a fine stone bridge, has a trade in grain, timber, cattle, salt, and piece-goods. Pop. (1881) 50,987; (1891) 43,159. The town dates from the establishment of the cantonment in 1821.
