Karauli (Kerowlee), a native state in Rajputana, separated by the river Chambal from Gwalior. Area, 1208 sq. m.; population, 156,587, nearly all Hindus. It is a hilly country, especially rich in timber.—The capital, Karauli, 75 miles NW. of Gwalior, is defended by a sandstone wall, 2 miles in extent. Pop. 25,607.
