Kef, EL, a walled town of Tunis, 95 miles SW. of the capital, perched on the side of a steep hill, was noted in Carthaginian times for its temple to Astarte. There exist a ruined temple, thermæ, and cisterns of Roman construction. Pop. 4000, exclusive of a small French garrison.
