Kei River, GREAT, a river of South Africa, which in 1848 was made the boundary between Cape Colony and Kaffraria. Transkei is a magistracy of Kaffraria, comprising Fingoland, the Idutwya Reserve, and Gealekaland, and lying between the Great Kei River and the western boundary of Pondoland. The magistracy forms, administratively, a dependency of Cape Colony. Pop. 1020 Europeans and 152,550 natives.
