Kenia, MOUNT

Chambers's Encyclopaedia, Volume 6: Humber to Malta, p. 411

Kenia, MOUNT, an isolated mountain mass in eastern Africa, about 10° south of the equator, and not far north of Kilima-Njaro, nearly in the centre of British East Africa. It is also known as Doenyo Ebor, or White Mountain, because its summit is covered with perpetual snow. The crater wall rises up to a height of 16,000 feet, but the loftiest pinnacle towers up 3000 feet higher. Count Teleki partly ascended it in 1887, and Dr Gregory got to beyond 17,000 feet in 1893.
