Kootenay, a river of British Columbia which rises in Canada, passes through corners of Montana and Idaho, but returns to Canada again, and, after a course of 450 miles (during which it forms a lake), falls into the Columbia River. Gold is largely found in its basin, especially since 1894, and several mining towns have sprung up.
