Landskrona. a seaport of Sweden, stands on the Sound, 16 miles NNE. from Copenhagen. It has a good harbour, carries on sugar-refining, ship-building, and the manufacture of tobacco and leather, exports considerable corn and butter, and imports raw sugar, coal, and grain. Pop. (1875) 9084; (1888) 20,354. The town was a fortress down to 1870. Opposite Landskrona in the Sound lies the island of Hvem, on which Tycho Brahe built his observatory of Oranienborg.
