Langensalza, a town of the Prussian province of Saxony, 13 miles by rail N. by W. of Gotha, with a pop. of (1885) 10,924, and woollen and cloth manufactures. Here occurred, on 27th June 1866, an encounter between 19,000 Hanoverians and 8200 Prussians; the latter were at first defeated, but being reinforced compelled the former to capitulate two days later. Not far from the town is a sulphur spring that attracts 600 visitors annually.
