Langhorne, JOHN (1735-79), for a time rector of Blagdon in Somerset, devoted most of his life to literature, and published a long series of poems, tales, translations, &c. He is best known as having, with his brother William (1721-77), produced what has always ranked as the standard translation of Plutarch.
