Lapithæ, a mythical race inhabiting the mountains of Thessaly. They were ruled by Pirithous, a son of Ixion and half-brother of the Centaurs. At the marriage of Pirithous to Hippodamia, the Centaurs, flown with insolence and wine, attempted to carry off the bride and the other women, but were overpowered after a bloody struggle by the Lapithæ.
